A Door That Leads Somewhere!

I am determined to find a new way to photograph my products, especially my bags. I usually have one of my daughters model for me, but it is getting more and more difficult to work out a good time to take photos when they are available and there is good natural light. Winter weather and shorter days, along with their school schedules and part-time jobs, make for a tight window of opportunity for taking photos.

With this goal in mind, I have been looking around at various types of photographs, hoping for an epiphany. My current favorite background style involves the use of old weathered doors. I have always loved old doors. They seem to hold a secret, especially if they are time-worn and weathered. I think about what and who has passed through them over the years. For me, doors are symbolic of the future and opportunities and even adventure! Who knows what might be waiting on the other side?

  1. Those photos are beautiful! I love photos of weathered and colored doors as well as iron work etc.

I am with you on the not having enough natural sunlight. Not a huge fan of the sun myself but moving to Seattle last June, I discovered I had taken the sun for granted, at least in my need for it for photos, lol.

  2. I love love love the doors. I think the are a great background. I had a vision of an old wooden door leaned up on a barn wall. Crystal door knob with on of your bag's hanging from it.
My photos from today are rubbish because I could not get good light.

  3. Those are beautiful doors. I can imagine a secret garden behind one of them. I too struggle with lighting issues. I do have a good window so if its a sunny day I have perfect light. If its cloudy, not so good without going outside. I can't wait for spring to get here already.

  4. Wow, those doors are so amazing!!
So many wonderful things I can picture behind them!!
Taking photos of items are so frustrating for me too!! Especially with our nasty winter weather...the natural lighting hasn't been very helpful these past couple weeks!!
Good luck with finding new ways to photograph your bags!
